Falmouth Academy invites applications for its 2025–2026 Artist-in-Residence Program, featuring a Poet-in-Residence from the Cape Cod community. This dynamic, week-long, full-day residency brings poetry to life through immersive workshops, interdisciplinary learning, and student performance.
The selected poet will collaborate with students in grades 7–12, leading creative workshops and masterclasses that explore language, voice, and performance. This year’s residency is inspired by Katharine Lee Bates, author of “America the Beautiful,” and is designed in celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Working closely with English, history, and arts faculty, the Poet-in-Residence will help guide students in creating original poetry and spoken-word pieces that connect literary expression with historical, artistic, and civic themes. The residency culminates in a student-led public performance showcasing poetry, music, and theater, celebrating youth voice and community engagement.
This is more than a teaching opportunity, it is a chance to inspire, create, and celebrate poetry with the next generation of writers and thinkers. Poets with a passion for education, creativity, and community engagement are encouraged to apply. Prior experience working with students is welcome but not required.
