The Cape Cod Theatre Project brings together playwrights of new American plays with professional directors and actors—often straight from Broadway—for staged readings at Falmouth Academy each summer. This is an opportunity to experience the birth of an exciting new play before it moves on to major stages around the country.
Andrew McCarthy, Mark Brokaw, Carey Perloff and Jean-Michele Gregory will be developing new plays this summer with The Cape Cod Theatre Project. McCarthy, known for his roles in “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “Pretty in Pink” and the Broadway stage, will team with playwright Neil LaBute to work on LaBute’s newest play, “second year senior,” a two-handed play about a brother and sister opening old wounds.
Four plays will be developed in July at The Cape Cod Theatre Project, culminating in three performances of each play as staged readings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. through the month of July at Falmouth Academy:
Guidance by Daria Polatin, Directed by Mark Brokaw (July 8-10)
A new high school guidance counselor gets caught up in the lives of his students. Not even his Advil addiction can save him in this comedy about love and life in a complex world.
The Color of Desire by Nilo Cruz, Directed by Carey Perloff (July 15-17)
As the revolution heats up, in Havana, a dashing American businessman hires a young Cuban actress for an unlikely role in this story of intrigue, seduction and the pursuit of freedom.
second year senior by Neil LaBute, Directed by Andrew McCarthy (July 22-24)
During a stormy night, a brother and sister peel back the many layers of truth surrounding their lives. A thriller from the author of reasons to be pretty.
The Agony and The Ecstasy of Steve Jobs written and performed by Mike Daisey, directed by Jean-Michele Gregory (July 29-31)
Mike Daisey puts the life of Apple Computer’s Steve Jobs in hilarious, poignant perspective. He weaves a tale of Hubris mixed with brilliance and hucksterism to reveal how Apple Computer has taken on a significant role in his life and in the world.
