Falmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, day school for students in grades 7 through 12. Although Falmouth Academy is a reading and writing school, our students enjoy great success in mathematics, science and the arts. Our core curriculum requires each Falmouth Academy student to take English, history, science, mathematics, and a foreign language every year. This course of instruction is rigorous with a concentration on the skills of writing, close reading, research, and effective management of time. Cooperative learning and independent research are central to the curriculum. Students may take up to four elective courses each year, and physical education, in addition to their core academic courses.
Falmouth Academy students work hard. That is to be expected in a serious academic school. However, we value balance as well. We expect our students to learn to work attentively and to play with enthusiasm. Well-balanced students will memorize lines for the theater as well as dates in history. They will practice a Haydn concerto with the same effort they put into writing an essay. They will exercise their bodies on the sports fields as they exercise their minds in the classroom. What’s more, they will take advantage of new opportunities to stretch their experiences, meeting previously untried challenges wherever they’re offered. For these reasons, and because Falmouth Academy faculty members have many interests outside the classroom, FA offers a full range of elective courses and after-school activities to supplement the academic program.
