As you have heard or perhaps read in the latest issue of The Mainsheet, I have finally arrived in Falmouth and am on the verge of completing my first week in my still rather sparsely decorated office. In just a few short days, my first impressions of Falmouth Academy have been confirmed; so many of you have already warmly welcomed me and extended the helping hands of friendship that I expect I will be availing myself in the days and weeks to come.
I am currently wandering the corridors, re-introducing myself to my team, and sitting down with each to hear more about what makes FA tick. I’ve also been doing a lot of reading. Nestled in the cabinets in and around my office reside countless files, binders, and publications which collectively tell the story of the school and of the good work of my predecessors. Not surprisingly, what has already emerged is a shared belief in the power of teacher-student relationships to unleash academic potential and affect personal growth, a commitment to measuring success not only by the places our students go, but by the distance each has traveled, an agile blend of small school values and big school opportunities, and an arena where kids not only fit in, they stand out. I look forward to seeing all of you in September, if not sooner, but in the meantime, I extend my best wishes for a summer that feels as long as the weather is lovely.
