The Learning Resource Specialist coordinates with the Student Support Team and teachers to provide individualized learning support and generally meets with a referred student once a week. Learning support sessions are based on a student’s individual needs and typically provide both reinforcement of subject content and an opportunity for the student to learn and practice strategies to compensate for areas of weakness. The one-on-one format also emphasizes general study skills, effective organization and time management. The Learning Resource Specialist communicates regularly with the student’s teachers to assess student progress. Please contact Helen Reuter, Falmouth Academy's Learning Resource Specialist, with any questions.
Seventh and eighth grade students learn study skills in courses designed to support their success in meeting the academic expectations of the Middle School. These skills serve students well as they advance to the Upper School and are necessary in managing the independence of college study. The study skills course includes lessons on organizing, summarizing, note-taking, outlining, and researching, and offers helpful information on topics such as short term and long term memory, learning styles, and deliberate practice.
