Geology and Environmental Science

Geology and Environmental Science begins with a study of how to read and create maps to develop 9th graders' understanding of how to interpret the natural world. We study the formation of Cape Cod and how physical processes have shaped the earth over time. Geology and Environmental Science labs often take place outdoors all throughout the year and include measuring beach profiles, measuring the discharge from a stream, and exploring renewable energy resources on Cape Cod. Throughout the year, students become nineteenth century naturalists in Beebe Woods and independently apply the observational and record-keeping skills they have learned by analyzing and interpreting historic and seasonal changes in the landscape.
